Bridge to the Future
Die Brücke in Dresden, with Paula Modersohn-Becker, 1905–1911
In 1905 four young artists in Dresden formed a group and named it Die Brücke, "the Bridge." They wanted an art that was direct and unpolished. In the same years, with no tie to the group, Paula Modersohn-Becker was simplifying form in her own way.
- Modersohn-Becker's pictures of 1906, made apart from the Dresden painters
- The Brücke painters' subjects: city streets, stage performers, studio sitters and landscape
- Prints and quick drawings, made alongside the paintings
