Working With Each
Johannes Vermeer
The Milkmaid
c. 1660
Oil on canvas, 45.5 × 41 cm. Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
Scans by the Rijksmuseum and the Mauritshuis in 2022 found objects painted out of this kitchen.
- At lower right, a fire basket was later painted over; the foot stove, the tiles and the floor now cover it.
- A rack of jugs sketched behind her head was never developed.
